Carolyn Hiatt, RN, MSN

Carolyn has been an RN for over 25 years and has her master’s degree in nursing. She's an Atlanta native but has also lived in Ohio. Carolyn has always wanted to be a nurse, like her mother, since she was six yrs old. She has three children of her own that are over 18 yrs old now. She returned to Georgia in 2004 and was offered a job at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, on the Cardiac Step-down unit, where she spent the next seven years caring for babies with heart problems. Carolyn also taught CPR, PALS, discharge classes for cardiac babies, and was an infection prevention advocate for her unit.

Carolyn notably completed a research project comparing different pain medication relief in children, with the findings resulting in a clinical practice change in the pediatric population after cardiothoracic surgery. She left her position at CHOA to see the children well and in the community, by working in pediatric home health. Her latest job was at Piedmont Hospital of Atlanta as the Newborn admission nurse assessing babies immediately after delivery and assisting mothers with breastfeeding. She prefers the pediatric population because there is always time to snuggle babies!
